Abacus is a member of Anthem Schools Trust, which is accountable to its parent Trust and the Department for Education for the school’s performance. The Board of Trustees formally delegates some of its governance responsibilities to a Local Governing Body under a scheme of delegation. The Local Governing Body meets each half-term and plays a strategic role in running the school. Its main responsibilities are:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school;
- Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and each pupil in line with its vision and ethos; providing challenge and support;
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
The local governing body acts collectively to make strategic decisions and convenes working groups as required to address different aspects of school life, eg. standards, curriculum, wellbeing, admissions, attendance, premises and finances. Some governors with relevant expertise have been given specific individual responsibilities.
If you are interested in joining our local governing body, please download the forms at the bottom of this page and return them to Vicki Briody, headteacher.
